Years 7-11 have made a good start to their season in the Barrow Schools Netball League with all teams unbeaten in their opening friendly fixtures. Year 7 won their following two games convincingly but were beaten by a strong St. Bernard’s team 5-0 in the third. A fantastic team performance by Year 8 ensured that they were runaway winners against St. Bernard’s 11-0 while the under 16s were unlucky to lose to Dowdales 10-6 in a very fast paced match. Year 9 have yet to play – their matches were cancelled due to the snow but they have been training well. Congratulations must also go to Laylah Scott, Wallis McDowall, Charlotte Hill, Ellie Nicholson and Ella Brocklebank who have been selected for the under 14 South Cumbria Netball Satellite Academy.

Chetwynde’s Young Engineers Club has been chosen as one of 17 clubs in the country, out of 89 entrants, to show case their submarine project at The National Big Bang Fair in London from 10th-12th March.

This is a tremendous achievement for our club and all of the club’s members are hoping they will be one of the four lucky pupils to make the trip.

The Infant Christmas play was absolutely

brilliant  this year with all the children from KGN to Year 2 participating.

It was a new story about a little camel that finds it hard to keep up with his Mummy & Daddy.  The camels were led by ‘The Three Wise Women’ who had packed their ‘essentials’ for the journey, namely heated rollers, spray tan and false eyelashes!!!

Liz Wiejak composed and wrote the lyrics for most of the songs.  Parents who are veterans of Infant shows commented that this was the best one they had ever seen.

The ESSA Dolphin Award:

Chetwynde School, Barrow in Furness

The Cumbrian school has been awarded the English School Swiming Association’s Dolphon Award because in 2009/2010 they ensured every pupil from years 3,4,5 and 6 was able to swim 100 metres.  Sport has always been an important part of life at Chetwynde School and swimming is a particular strength, with successes regularly achieved in national competitions by school teams and individuals.  The school began in 1938 as a small preparatory school and is now one of the most successful independent schools in the country.
