MALCOLM G W CRAIG Dipl Arch (Oxford) RIBA
I was appointed to the governing body of Chetwynde School in November 2007. I was educated at Sedbergh School and then qualified as an Architect after 7 years training at the Oxford School of Architecture. Being unable to resist the pull of the Lake District, I returned to take on the challenge of practise in Barrow. Now in our 30th year, the current partnership of Craig and Green Architects LLP continues an unbroken succession of practices responsible for many of the Borough’s buildings. Our work currently stretches throughout the North-West and beyond. My own speciality is with listed and historic buildings. I have gained professional recognition as an Architect Accredited in Building Conservation and I am a member of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association.
I enjoy fell walking, motorsport, photography and family life. I am married to Jennifer and we have two children both educated at Chetwynde. Katherine has now graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree and Richard is about to join the Sixth Form.

LOUISE THISTLETHWAITE J.P., LL.B (Hons), LL.M.
I was appointed to the board of governors in November 2008 and look forward to contributing to the School. I spent ten years working as a journalist in South Cumbria, before returning to academic life at Lancaster University. Having gained a bachelor’s degree in law, I went on to study as a postgraduate, receiving my master’s degree in the law of armed conflict and international human rights. I currently teach the law of trusts and equitable obligations to undergraduates in the Law School at Lancaster University. I am married to a local dentist and live in Ireleth.
In November 2009 I was appointed as a Magistrate, serving on the Furness and District bench.”
PEGGY CURRY
On my retirement, I was delighted to be asked to join the Governing Body after 21 very happy teaching years at Chetwynde. I am hoping that my knowledge of how the school runs and my association with staff, parents and pupils will enable me to make a valuable contribution.
Prior to my appointment at Chetwynde, I taught in a variety of state and independent schools, as well as a period in Further Education colleges, from Lancashire to the Isle of Wight, which is where my 2 children were born.
Spending as much time as possible with them and their children, as well as walking with my husband are my main interests. Others also involve being outdoors as much as possible and include spending hours on my allotment, cycling and swimming. In quieter moments, I am hoping to become a proficient quilter.
