Sport
Chetwynde School places great emphasis on sport and physical fitness and several sports lessons are incorporated into the infant school curriculum. From a very young age our pupils are introduced to a range of sports and physical activities through which they begin to develop the skills required for sporting enjoyment. Many of our very young pupils go on to achieve success, in the Junior and Senior schools, both at local and national level.
The annual sports day and swimming gala are highlights of the Infant School calendar. Whilst the emphasis is on fun and good sportsmanship these events give the children competitive experience in a happy and supportive environment.
From the Reception Class upwards children enjoy weekly swimming lessons and the school participates in the Dolphin ‘Learn to Swim Award Scheme’. The award aims to encourage the teaching of swimming in primary schools with awards going to the schools with the best record of attainment in swimming. For the last five years we have received an award for outstanding achievement. All of our infant children have been able to swim unaided; a remarkable accomplishment.
Because Chetwynde educates children from age 3 - 18 our youngest pupils are able to benefit from specialist teachers and sports facilities seldom available in the primary stages.
