Welcome to Reception class, the Reception class at Chetwynde follows the themes, principles and commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. We ensure that each child is treated as an individual enabling them to make the best possible progress towards achieving the 17 Early Learning Goals by the end of the Reception year.
The EYFS Framework underpins all future learning by promoting and developing the following prime and specific areas of learning:
Communication, Language and Literacy
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
Expressive Arts and Design
Understanding the World
Our curriculum includes lessons and activities based on these seven areas of learning. Themes covered throughout the year include Myself and My Family, People who Help Us, Festivals and Celebrations and Minibeasts. Learning takes place both indoors and outdoors and staff aim to provide a balance between adult led activities and those initiated by the children. We recognise that play is vital to young children’s learning and ensure lots of play activities are provided daily to support their learning, promote their creativity and challenge their thinking.
Throughout the year, the children will enjoy Outdoor Adventures in our wonderful school grounds and trips to the theatre and local attractions such as the Dock Museum and the Wildlife Oasis.
