Year 1 is a very important year for our children as it is their transition from foundation stage to key stage 1. We aim to make this as easy and enjoyable as possible for the children.
During the year we look at many exciting topics in our English including Fairy Stories and Traditional Tales, books written by Julia Donaldson and the Mr Gringling stories based on the Lighthouse Keeper.
We will travel back in time to explore the Gunpowder Plot, spend time looking back in the past to the work of Florence Nightingale and other Nuturing Nurses and take a trip back into the past to discover what life was like in London during the Great Fire.
Our Seaside topic links in with our English Sea and Coast topic and Geography topic: What a Wonderful World.
Our science topics during the year are integrated into other curriculum topics, in particular our English and Geography units of work.
To enhance the children’s learning experience we make use of our wonderful school grounds and also make several educational visits throughout the year.
