The English department encourages pupils to be independent, thoughtful and articulate learners who will develop a true appreciation of their literary heritage and an awareness of the beauty of the English language. Through their studies pupils will become confident and able communicators.
Great emphasis is placed on English literature and pupils are expected to read widely exploring a range of genres.
To enhance the curriculum, theatre visits, poetry recitals,writing competitions and talks by local authors are a regular feature of the school calendar.
