Curriculum
As a non-selective school, our academic record is, quitesimply, outstanding. We welcome students of all abilitiesat Chetwynde and seek to give them an education whichreflects their particular talents. We strive to nurture the individual, while instilling in all our students the value of learning.
A traditional approach to teaching is complemented by our determination to provide all our students with the widest possible range of opportunities, what ever their abilities.
Our GCSE results place us consistently among the highest-achieving schools in Cumbria each year. With a predominantly academic curriculum, our students are taught a wide and diverse range of subjects, including English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Classics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, three Modern Foreign Languages, Latin, PE, Art, Drama and ICT.
Most students will study a minimum of ten subjects to GCSE. There is a range of optional subjects available. This varies from year to year but there is usually the opportunity for senior students to follow at least one subject as an extra-curricular GCSE.
In the Senior School, our students are able to broaden their horizons through clubs, trips at home and abroad, and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Our Senior students are encouraged to explore new avenues, embrace new experiences, grow, achieve and to mature into the people they want to be.
