History

The History Department at Chetwynde aims to encourage an appreciation of the past, promoting the enjoyment of its rediscovery. The skills of all our pupils are developed in order to evaluate a wide range of historical sources. The subject is one which lends itself to controversy and pupils are exposed to differing interpretations of events and challenged to draw their own conclusions. A healthy scepticism towards conflicting arguments is fostered.

The diversity of teaching styles makes learning a pleasure and it is hoped that this fascination for our collective surviving past will continue beyond Chetwynde.

The department has enjoyed considerable success at both GCSE and A Level in recent years.  A good number of students have moved on to study History at university including Oxford, University College London, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
