GCSE results 2018
On behalf of governors and staff I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students on their exam results. Each and every one of them has had a challenging few years as most of their subjects have undergone huge changes to specifications, marking, grading and content. The GCSE results this year are very encouraging and very well-deserved. In this year group, 82% got at least a Grade 4 in English and 67% at least a 4 in Maths. Special congratulations must go to Science with 100% of those taking Chemistry, Physics and Biology gaining a Grade 4 or above.
Our Progress8 score will not be published until later in the year but again, we need to remember that a significant proportion of our candidates (12/57) did not take SATs because they were in Chetwynde Independent School and do not count in the DfE statistics, despite making excellent progress. This is an anomaly only facing Independent all-through schools converting to Free School status and puts such schools at a distinct disadvantage when the Progress scores are published and the schools arranged in league tables.
Over half of this year group came to us in Year 8, 9 or 10, eight children joining us just a year before their GCSEs, again showing great courage and faith in this school. The fact that they changed schools at such a crucial time and have come away with good results is a testament both to them, to their families and to their hardworking teachers. Well done everyone.
